Insurance Discounts for Texas

Anti-Theft Device Discount
This discount applies if the insured
vehicle is equipped with a qualifying anti-theft device. Note:
Discount is applicable to comprehensive coverage premium only.
See below for types of
Anti-theft Device(s) qualifying for premium discounts.
Category I - Any of the following:
- Fuel cut-off, ignition cut-off,
or starter cut-off device to prevent the car from starting or
running.
- Window identification system:
Vehicle Identification Number etched into at least two windows
(other than small vent windows).
- Alarm device with horn, bell, or
other sounding device activated by a door, hood and trunk
sensor.
- Steel collar covering the
steering column, to prevent access to the ignition system.
Category II -The completion of
Category I plus:
- Fuel cut-off, ignition cut-off,
or starter cut-off device to prevent the car from starting or
running.
- Alarm device with automatic
shut-off and reset.
- Plus two or more of the
following which activate an alarm system:
- Motion sensor
- Ultrasonic sensor
Category III - Completion of Category
II, plus both of the following:
- Hood restraint
- Backup battery
Category IV - Completion of Category
III , plus:
- A passive method of activating
or deactivating the alarm system. Passive means it is activated
automatically when the driver turns the ignition off and removes
the key.
Category V - Completion of Category IV,
plus:
- Stolen motor vehicle recovery
device

terms:
Alarm -
means a motor vehicle's horn, bell, siren or other
sounding device that is easily audible at 300 feet.
Anti-theft device -
means a device that helps prevent vandalism to,
or theft of, a motor vehicle or its contents.
Automatic shut-off and reset
- means a system by which an alarm device
sounds for not more than four minutes, shuts off, and immediately
rearms itself.
Backup battery -
means an auxiliary power source that trips an alarm
device if the main power source is disconnected or if wires to the
alarm device are cut or disconnected.
Door sensor -
means a mechanical switch that activates the alarm
device.
Fuel Cut-Off -
means a system or device which prevents the ignition
electrical system from being operational. It requires a second
system or device to activate the ignition electrical system. (e.g.
keypad, button, toggle switch, pass-key, etc.)
Glass sensor -
means an electronic device that activates the alarm
device if it detects the sound of breaking glass or metal in contact
with glass.
Hood restraint -
means a device preventing full access to under-hood
components, including chain restraints that allow hood opening a
maximum of four inches, a mechanical or electrical device that
physically locks the hood down, or a mechanical or electrical device
that prevents the factory supplied hook mechanism from operating.
Hood sensor -
means a mechanical switch that activates the alarm
device.
Ignition Cut-Off -
means a system or device which prevents the
ignition electrical system from being operational. It requires a
second system or device to activate the ignition electrical system.
(e.g. keypad, button, toggle switch, pass-key, etc.)
Motion sensor -
means a mechanical switch that activates the alarm
device if the vehicle is jacked up or towed.
Passive -
describes an anti-theft device or system which is
activated automatically when the driver turns the ignition key to
the off position and the key is removed.
Passive Method -
means a system that includes a motion detection
device which cannot be disarmed independently from the remainder of
the system, and meets all of the following standards:
- The alarm must be triggered by
entry of doors, hood and truck.
- The hood must be equipped with
either a hood lock and latch mechanism or an inside hood latch
control.
- The motion sensor must activate
the alarm which must sound for no more than four minutes and
upon ceasing, must reset itself.
- The alarm must be installed in
the engine compartment so as to be inaccessible without opening
the hood.
- The maximum time delay permitted
to disarm the system after re-entry is 20 seconds.
- The system is equipped with
either a redundant starting means or an internal hood lock.
Redundant Starting Means -
means a switch in addition to the primary
ignition switch which makes the ignition or starter system
inoperable and which is not visible from the driver's position or
which is disguised or protected by a separately installed lock.
Starter Cut-Off -
means a system or device which prevents the
ignition electrical system from being operational. It requires a
second system or device to activate the ignition electrical system.
(e.g. keypad, button, toggle switch, pass-key, etc.)
Stolen vehicle recovery
system - means an independently operated
system that automatically notifies a monitoring center if a motor
vehicle equipped with the system is started by any means other than
through use of an ignition key.
Trunk sensor -
means a mechanical switch that activates the alarm
device if the trunk is opened while the alarm system is armed.
Ultrasonic sensor -
means an electronic device that activates the
alarm device if an ultrasonic field is disturbed inside the motor
vehicle.
Vibration sensor -
means a mechanical or electrical device that
activates the alarm device if any part of the motor vehicle is
bumped, causing vibration.
Window identification system
- means a system under which the motor
vehicle identification number is permanently marked on at least two
windows of the motor vehicle other that the small vent windows.
Defensive Driver Discount
This discount applies when an auto,
other than motorcycle, afforded personal auto coverage shall have a
credit applied to the rate otherwise applicable; provided
satisfactory evidence is presented to the Company that the principal
operator of such auto has successfully completed a driving safety
course.

Driver Training Discount |
This discount
applies when an auto afforded personal auto coverage rated
at the class 2A-1, 2A-2, 2AF-1, 2AF-2, 2C-1, 2C-2, 2D,
2CF-1, 2CF-2 or 2DF rate shall have a driver training credit
applied where satisfactory evidence is presented that the
applicant, if a male operator of the auto under 25 years of
age or an unmarried female operator under 21 years of age,
and every male operator of the auto under 25 years of age
and every unmarried female operator of the auto under 21
years of age resident of the same household as the applicant
or who customarily operates the auto has successfully
completed a driver education course.

Drug and Alcohol Driving Awareness Training Discount |
An afforded
personal auto coverage shall have a credit applied to the
rate otherwise applicable; provided satisfactory evidence
(certificate, or photocopy thereof) is presented to the
Company that the principal operator of such auto has
successfully completed a drug and alcohol driving awareness
program that has been approved by the Texas Education Agency
under the Texas Driver and Traffic Safety Education Act.

Multiple Automobiles Discount |
You may be
eligible for this discount if you meet all of the criteria:
- There are two or
more private passenger automobiles primarily
driven by persons residing at the address.
- The vehicles
need to be:

owned by an individual or owned jointly by
two or more individuals who are residents of
the same household, or
-
owned jointly by two or more individuals who
are not residents of the same household
address shown in the policy, but are related
by blood, marriage or adoption, including a
ward or foster child.

Multiple Line Discount |
You may be
eligible for this discount if you are the named insured on a
qualifying insurance agent Fire, Life or Health policy.

New Business
Discount |
You may be
eligible to receive this discount if:
- Each of the
drivers in the household has had no moving
violations and no at-fault accidents during the
past three years
- The household
qualifies for Mutual

Passive Restraint Discount |
When a policy
affords medical payments or personal injury protection
coverage for a private passenger auto equipped with factory
installed passive restraint system which meets the published
Federal Safety Standards.
Passive Restraint System is
essentially defined as a system that (1) is continually
operative the moment an individual enters the auto and the
auto begins movement, (2) restrains the occupants from
movement in the event of a collision, and (3) automatically
deploys without any manual operation being performed by the
occupants of the auto.

Renewal
Discount |
If your auto
(or the auto it replaced) has been with
the Hermes Insurance agency for at least three years and
there have been no points chargeable under the Texas Driver
Insurance Plan during this period, you may receive a
discount on the premiums for Liability, Medical Payments,
Personal Injury Protection and Collision coverages.
